Nero 8 Ultra delivers a refurbished digital media suite that's still as comprehensive as they come, though now in a more polished wrapper. The installation file is massive; also, once Nero is on your machine, it consumes a hefty serving of memory. Considering all it can do, though, we can only complain so much.

CD- and DVD-burning is still Nero's core; welcome shortcuts for burning and ripping CDs and DVDs are now accessible from the new StartSmart GUI, which is now adorned with a programmable RSS reader. Authoring and burning high-definition CDs and DVDs are added features, and so is the ability to export video files made and edited with Nero to YouTube, MySpace, and MyNero.

Adobe Photoshop, or simply Photoshop, is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems. Adobe's 2005 "Creative Suite" rebranding led to Adobe Photoshop 8's renaming to Adobe Photoshop CS. Thus, Adobe Photoshop CS4 is the 11th major release of Adobe Photoshop. The CS rebranding also resulted in Adobe offering numerous software packages containing multiple Adobe programs for a reduced price. Adobe Photoshop is included in most of Adobe's Creative Suite offerings.

Photoshop's popularity, combined with its high retail price, makes Photoshop's piracy rate relatively high. Adobe countered by including SafeCast DRM starting with Adobe Photoshop CS.

Premiere Pro 1.5's system requirements are hefty, and this paired with the learning curve when moving from V6.5 to Pro won't do much to encourage users of V6.5 or earlier to upgrade. Project management tools are useful, and Bézier curves in the motion editor are nice, but High Definition support isn't likely to have a huge impact on the UK market for some time yet. Overall, Pro 1.5 is a relatively minor upgrade, so some V1 users will choose to wait for V2 before upgrading. But, Pro 1.5 does its job well, and our intensive usage across three big projects resulted in no tantrums and no crashes. So, possibly, the real appeal of Premiere Pro 1.5 to existing Pro users might be increased stability and a relatively bug-free environment.
There's no denying that Premiere Pro is a very able editor, though we don't find it as tactile and friendly as Edition, or regard its advanced audio tools as anything like as accessible or intuitive as Vegas's. On the whole, V1.5 moves Premiere Pro in the right direction, but without undoing some of the backward steps taken by the original version.
